Experts drastically debate whether China should set up military bases overseas
U.S. Jamestown Foundation, “China Briefing”, the article on September 24, the original title: Did it change that Beijing’s attitude on overseas military bases?
China has been to avoid the establishment of military bases abroad, it is stressed that Beijing and non-interference in internal affairs of other non-aligned foreign policy part of it. Chinese security analysts have often said, does not seek to overseas military bases and positions of military alliances and overseas deployment of troops to maintain a prudent defense policy is consistent. The last century, published in the last 10 years, a number of official documents highlight the long-standing policy. For example, China in 1995 issued a white paper on arms control, disarmament, said that China did not in any foreign troops, no overseas military bases.
Legend of the Chinese overseas military bases
However, this declaration has become less high-profile in recent years; People’s Liberation Army taking gradual steps towards a more active role in the evolution of the world, especially through participation in UN peacekeeping operations. However, the issue of China’s foreign military presence to maintain self-discipline.
However, despite China’s long-standing aversion to foreign permanent bases, but there are indications that the long-term policy in the future may increasingly become the Chinese scholars and security experts the topic of intense debate. In fact, there is no reason to doubt that China intends to create a world network of military bases, so that the PLA have the ability to close the global activities of the United States, but some Chinese analysts have clearly endorsed the establishment of at least a limited number of facilities to be able to expand in China’s political and economic interests of The regional action is essential to support the Chinese army.
It is not clear that these discussions reflect the policy changes agreed with the emergence of schools of thought, or represent personal views, but it seems that the Chinese navy in the Gulf of Aden on anti-piracy actions in China led military operations in neighboring area to provide support serious consideration. Chinese strategists may be of interest to the U.S. Pacific Command in the 90s of last century’s “site rather than the base” strategy. In accordance with the strategy, China is strategically important to make use of key facilities, without having to set up a permanent military bases overseas.
Set up a “space” in key areas will enable the PLA to send troops, do not lead to China’s long-term policy took place potentially contentious changes. Chinese analysts may be contemplating, focusing on “venue” approach to the United States and India-Japan and related countries in the region to stimulate relatively small.
China’s attitude towards the extent to which overseas bases to make amendments to this point remains to be seen, but one thing seems certain, that the debate has started. A few years ago, Chinese analysts stressed that Beijing did not want to “base and the venue.” Today, with the Beijing People’s Liberation Army of action to increase and global interests beyond the immediate neighborhood, such an attitude seems to change.
Compared to be able to provide support for a variety of potential conflict of overseas military bases, “site” clearly does not mean much change, but as the People’s Liberation Army to take on new tasks in order to support China’s growing global interests, away from China aimed at promoting the regional non-war military operations support center on behalf of the People’s Liberation Army is still an important step forward.

It is crazy that China with their commercial, peacekeeping ,anti-piracy and humanitarian activities far from their own borders are not adequately placed to fully support these operations. They don’t even have an operational Aircraft carrier fleet. They are considered by some to be now the 2nd world power so they are seriously lacking in this area. They should have at least 3 carrier fleets with several permanent Air bases to protect and supply them which is vital. They also have a duty to protect their many citizens abroad, not to mention the need to counter-act other nation’s dominance.I personally would welcome China’s imminent expansionary goals.GO CHINA GO !!!
